Part 1 of the series takes a different turn when you think of hot beats sick flow and always clean you think Dr. Dre, 9TH wonder and Kanye West!!! But stop hold on there’s another Mr. West in the building. West Wonder POLO down in the Range whenever you see him has been pumping out beats up and down the east coast but mainly the Carolina's for over 10 years. He’s been featured on several albums over that time but never really had the time to work on his own solo album due to the high demand for his version of heartbreaks and 808’s. After hearing the album I had to have a sit down with my man and see what the temperature is since the album dropped So I Called up WEST WONDER and asked him a few questions about music in NC/SC and here’s what he said.
WHATS UP MY MAN HOW'S LIFE AFTER 1st APPEARANCE?
Ahh man life has been good FAM, just blessed on the good response and support I’ve received from fans, A & R’s and other artist on the album.
SINCE THE ALBUM HAS YA SWAF GONE UP OR STAYED EVEN?
Honestly, I’m still the same and always will be no matter how big I get man but my SWAF was always high before the album. Ha-ha
WHAT NEW PROJECTS YOU WORKING ON?
Umm where do I begin? Jai-30 and I going in right now, to put some joints down on his new album dropping soon. Got a beat on TyBru’s new album dropping in April. My dude Celinski out of Greensboro. Cweav out of Charlotte. Kid out of Asheboro J-Bryant, Which I’ll actually be producing that entire album. So that will be major. Also I’m looking to drop my second album for the fall. So already brainstorming for that one.
WHAT NEW ARTISTS ARE YOU WORKING WITH ON YOUR NEW PROJECT?
My Man D-Skillz from Kings Mountain. It’s a list of them but I wouldn’t consider them new.
WHAT NEW PRODUCERS HAVE YOU BEEN IN THE STEW WITH OR ARE YOU JUST GOING TO SELF-PRODUCE?
Well you know I’m picking when it comes to producers. Specially when you a producer yourself. First Appearance was self-produced but this next album I want some other producers to be involved. I got Vinny Knuckles, TyBru, DJ Dric and myself. Who make up our production team called Soulful Music Group. Hopefully going to work with, C-Beatz of MJJ Group. Dope producer who’s working with industry artist such as Yo Gotti to name one. Also Sypher Storm for HardBody Group.
WHAT DO YOU SAY TO THOSE PEOPLE THAT SAY YOU CAN’T RAP?
That’s a good question? Lol honestly I don’t know because no one has ever said I can’t rap. So I’ve never had to address that before. Unless they been thinking it. Ha-ha
ARE THEY THE REASON YOU CONTINUE TO GO HARD IN THE STEW?
I go hard off self-motivation and my daughter alone. I don’t need anyone to get me motivated as an artist. As a producer
AS A PRODUCER/ARTIST WHAT DRIVES YOU WHEN THINGS GET TOUGH?
When I hear a new 9th Wonder beat or Kanye beat. Shit that gets me geared up to go bang out a fresh new beat and make some crazy dope shit. Ha-ha
WHAT DO YOU THINK IT IS THAT’S KEEPING A MAJOR ARTIST FROM REALLY OWNING HIP-HOP OUTTA CAROLINA?
Really I feel it’s the people around them. Not meaning the camp they with but the NC as people and other artist. NC has always hated on other artist from the same state instead of helping or support. As far as the people. Shit they’ll listen to artist anywhere in the world sometimes before they listen to a good ass artist who lives down the street from them. Its crazy but its real
LAST QUESTION BEFORE I GO WHAT IS THE TEMPERATURE OF HIP-HOP IN THE CAROLINA’S?
I feel its heating up and people are starting to embrace that it’s good artist here such as TyBru, King Mez, Ed E Ruger, C-Weav, Big Remo and many others. Also artist from VA that is apart of the NC movement such as Poe Mack and Big Hop.
